My little chef …

Last night, my 11 year old son helped me make dinner. He actually prepared a dish all by himself with a bit of instruction from me – even the “prep-ing” of ingredients. He made Ground Chicken with Milk and Green Peas.

We were both so proud. It was yummy and as I was watching him prepare the ingredients and cook the dish – I realized how “Big” my little boy is now. He can actually hold a knife pretty well. He is careful with the knife and with the hot pot. He knows how to use a can opener. He is also cautious and makes sure to always wash his hands. I look forward to teaching him to cook other dishes. He seems to enjoy cooking. His dad taught him how to make omelets and he is a “pro” now.

I think it is important for “tweens” to learn how to cook early. This is a skill that they will need in life so they can survive. I learned how to cook at an early age too by watching adults cook but I never really started to “cook” for myself until I moved out. I am thankful that I know how to cook – I know I won’t get hungry.

PS – If you want to learn how to make “Ground Chicken with Milk and Green Peas”, you can watch a short video clip in my MommyCommunity blog.
